Admission to the museum galleries, distinguished speaker forums, and art exhibits is always free! Many events at the Observatory are free. There is a small per-seat fee for the planetarium shows.

Discover the wonders of the night sky at our Monthly Free Star Party on September 13th from 8:45 PM to 10:45 PM! Join us after dark for a special stargazing experience where guests can peer through our powerful telescopes and explore a variety of celestial sights.
Guests can expect to see double/mulitple stars, deep-sky targets (star clusters, nebulae, galaxies) after end of twilight (9:28 PM) on a moonless night, Neptune (after 9:36 PM), and Saturn (after 9:38 PM)

Closest Approach of Saturn 2025

Experience Saturn at its best! Join us in the Centennial Observatory for a rare late-night opportunity to see the ringed planet during its closest approach of 2025.
From 1:15–1:45 AM, Saturn will be just 795 million miles (1.28 billion km) from Earth, appearing bright and stunning in our telescopes. This year, the planet’s iconic rings will be tilted at only 4 degrees from edge-on, offering a unique perspective not often seen.
Don’t miss this chance to witness Saturn in striking detail—from its shimmering rings to its moons—during a peak celestial moment.
Please note: Observatory events are weather permitting. In the case of clouds or poor conditions, telescope viewing may be limited or unavailable.

Step back in time and discover the fascinating process of fossilization! During this hands-on evening activity, participants will create their own fossilized leaves to take home while learning about the science behind how fossils form. Guests will also have the chance to explore the museum’s fossil collections up close and uncover the stories hidden in ancient specimens.
Field trips and educational group events are welcome! Choose from our tour options or request a custom theme when you book a field trip.

The Centennial Observatory features one of the world’s largest fully wheelchair-accessible public telescopes. An elevator takes visitors up to the observatory space, once there, a wheelchair elevator is available to take visitors with limited mobility to the observatory deck. The ARE-125, an optical “periscope” designed by DFM, allows unprecedented access to the telescope for wheelchair-bound or limited-mobility visitors.
