Herrett Forum Distinguished Speaker Series Presents:

Forging Frontier Legacies: The Buffalo Soldiers of Idaho

The Buffalo Soldiers served on the Western frontier of the United States following the Civil War. In Idaho, they played a significant role in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Stationed at various military outposts, they helped maintain law and order, built infrastructure, and managed the forest.

The Buffalo Soldiers experienced challenges, discrimination, and difficult conditions in the American West. However, their legacy serves as a symbol of the resilience and dedication of African American soldiers in a time of prejudice and segregation.

Justin Vipperman will demonstrate how their contributions led to stability in Idaho in the face of adversity.
