Science Camp-In

Friday, February 27th, 2026

Registration open now.

What is Science Camp-In?

This program is designed for students in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade who are interested in learning about various STEAM topics (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) in a fun, engaging environment. Campers are invited to the museum for an evening packed with science workshops, a planetarium show, a trip to the observatory, and many other fun activities. The Science Camp-In is meant to show students real-world applications of science outside the classroom.

Campers' rank-ordering by prefernce determins which workshop they will participate in, first-come first-served.

The evening will culminate with a "camp-in" in the museum galleries, sleeping beneath a mammoth, a Machu Picchu, or African masks. The students will wake up early for more fun before being picked up by their parents.

Program information:

Cost of the program is $60 per participant.

Registration is now open and will close on February 12 or once all slots are filled. Registration is only available through Etix.

Workshops

A blue and white sun print of flowers
Sun Prints!
In this workshop, campers will learn how to make some of the oldest-known photographic images that exist! Sun Prints, also known as Cyanotypes, use UV light for exposure. Campers in this workshop will create and take home their own sun prints.
A lizard doing chemistry next to robots
Maker Space
We will be hosting campers as they program tool paths and cut parts on CNC machines, while visualizing 3D printers and robots in action. Campers in this workshop will create a 3D printed item to take home. **This workshop requires campers to wear closed-toed shoes**
Cartoon child in a dinosaur costume
Idaho's Dinosaurs
The Idaho Museum of Natural History from Pocatello, is joining us to host campers in a workshop where they'll examine and handle 3D printed replicas and original Idaho dinosaur-aged fossils. At the end of this workshop, campers will be able to correctly identify which fossils came from the animals known to have lived in Idaho during the Age of Dinosaurs.
Child building a LEGO structure
Build it Strong! Engineering Structures with LEGO Bricks
Brick and Beyond of Twin Falls joins us to host campers in a workshop that will teach hands-on basic engineering and design concepts through LEGO robotic building challenges. Campers will work in small teams to design and build a structure using LEGO.
Women planting plants
Adventures in Agriculture

Get ready to get your hands dirty and your mind growing with the CSI Ag Ambassadors! We will embark on a whirlwind tour of agriculture from the soil under our feet to the fish in our streams to the food on our plates. Campers will rotate through several hands-on discovery stations representing the wide variety of degree programs in the CSI Ag Department. Campers will complete and take home a map representing their Adventures in Agriculture and earn stamps at each station for completing the activity. **Allergy Notice: This activity has contact with soil, water, and food (may contain dairy, wheat, and soy).**
